Traditional Mahjong vs Mobile Solitaire Apps
I always thought mahjong was a four-player game built around strategy and reading other people. Recently I noticed that many older women now play what they call mahjong on their phones, but it looks completely different. Instead of opponents, it’s just matching identical tiles in a solitaire-style format. There’s no social negotiation, no calculation of who owes what at the end. It made me wonder whether this is still the same game or just something inspired by it. Has anyone looked into how these apps compare to traditional mahjong?
